An effective asset recovery regime is essential for a robust anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CFT) system. According to the FATF recommendations, jurisdictions are measured on the effectiveness of their AML/CFT structures. A key component of an effective AML/CFT system is the ability of competent authorities to recover criminal assets.
To assist jurisdictions in meeting this objective, the #ECOFEL, along with the Anti-Money Laundering Division Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, Taiwan (AMLD), organized the ‘Global Asset Recovery Conference’ from November 16-17, 2023.
This conference gathered stakeholders from Financial Intelligence Units, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Assets Recovery Agencies to discuss best practices and case examples related to the (inter)national asset recovery process.
The conference also equipped stakeholders with strategies and tools to enhance joint cooperation on a domestic and international basis.
