The Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL) delivered a workshop, in close coordination with FinCEN , FIU-Luxembourg , FIU-Isle of Man and Europol, on Ransomware during the 2023 EG Working Group & Regional Group Meeting in Dakar.
Ransomware attacks are growing in size and frequency. Many organizations and sectors fall victim to this crime, and it’s safe to say that ransomware damage costs are running in the billions. According to Interpol, Ransomware attacks will increase significantly in the coming years, and it is considered crime threat number one. While ransomware attacks may not currently happen in your jurisdiction, that can change at any moment.
During this workshop, the ECOFEL aimed to increase participants’ understanding of ransomware attacks, indicators, challenges, and what FIUs can do to contribute to the fight against ransomware.
